WORKSHOPS
SCRIPTWRITING
First session: May 23rd
The first workshop will be "The Secret to Great Dialogue"
Richard will kick off the session with some tips and tricks for writing the best dialogue based on his wealth of experience as a professional writer. Then we'll dive into your work! So we encourage you to bring a short scene to apply the techniques you've just learnt. You'll come away with a fresh perspective on writing dialogue as well as feedback on your work from a group of other writers!
Richard Kurti has been a professional writer for over twenty-five years, working for a wide variety of clients, from US studios such as Warner Bros, Universal and Fox Searchlight, to broadcasters such as the BBC, ITV and Sky. More recently he diversified into radio drama, with both podcast serials (Amazon Audible) and broadcast drama (BBC Radio 4). Constantly looking to broaden his storytelling skills, he wrote two YA novels (Walker Books), followed by a five-book series of historical thrillers set in Renaissance Rome for Sapere Books. Shows he's created have won numerous awards including BAFTAs, Royal Television Society & New York Festival International Radio Awards.
The first table read will be "Watching The Sky Go Dark" by Andi Courtland Fiona lives with her widowed father, Boyd. She occupies a trouble present while he increasingly drifts into the past when he’d lorded it over the classrooms in which he taught. Into this strained situation comes Duncan, an old school friend and pupil, whose mother has recently died. The play examines what the characters mean to each other and how they might resolve their predicaments.
